The Here and Now

The often cited reason for smacking is a honest belief that our society is falling apart. Apparently there is no respect ,children are defiant of authority, so.. we beat them into respecting us, is that an argument based on logic. I'm sure historians can find many examples of groups being beaten into submission. I douby if any of those moment are the proud moment of history. the adjectives that spring to my mind are, dictator, oppression and yes I can think of many more.

With the scale of feeling in favor of smacking, you would think the generation of young men and women that populate our streets in such disrespectful fashion are the actual product of a non-smacking generation of parents. Re-introducing the strap is of course going to reverse that hooligan behavior and change the world.
However, the fact is the disrespectful kids you meet are the product of a generation that could be smacked or hit by their parents.

We have never experienced a generation of Children that developed in a reasoned non-violent, non smacking environment.
